What Do You Really Mean When You Say, "I AM FINE"

Do you know that “I am fine” is the most told lie in the English language? It is usually used when someone is, in fact, not fine but they say “I am fine” because they don’t want to burden others and it’s easier to explain than what’s wrong, would you agree?

F.I.N.E is said to stand for “Feeling Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional”, and can also be “Feeling I’m Nothing to Everyone” or “Feeling Inadequate, Needing Encouragement”. Whatever your definition of FINE may be most of us would just lie and say “I am FINE”, because it’s an easy way out.

Then why do we say “I am fine” when clearly, we’re not:

  • Not sure of what you really feel
  • Pretending to be okay
  • To avoid conflicts
  • Scared to tell what you're really feeling

Only those who identify with these feelings can truly understand the agony behind the words “I am fine.”

The next time someone asks how you are, think about the response you’re already anticipating. What if we didn’t settle for “fine”? What if we stop, take a moment, and answer with true sincerity how I’m doing? Or better yet, tell them how you’re feeling. We could all benefit from slowing down and honestly evaluating how we are doing.

Breaking Free from Imposter Syndrome: A Journey of Self-Worth and Authentic Branding with Emily-Jane

Have you ever felt like you’re not enough, even while trying your hardest to be seen?

In this deeply vulnerable and soul-stirring episode of The Billy Boss Show, I sit down with the incredible Emily-Jane. She’s a coach, artist, and personal branding mentor whose story reminds us that who we truly are is already powerful, already worthy, and already enough.

Emily-Jane opens up about her journey from the safety of a 9-to-5 into the unknown world of entrepreneurship. It wasn’t glamorous or easy. Imposter syndrome crept in. Self-doubt made itself at home. But instead of pretending it wasn’t there, she did something brave. She leaned in. She began asking herself, Who am I when no one’s watching? What do I believe about my worth? Am I brave enough to be fully seen?

Our conversation dives deep into what personal branding truly means. It’s not about colours or content. It’s about connection. It’s about letting your truth be visible. Your past, your passions, your pain—they’re not flaws to hide. They are the foundation of your most magnetic presence. Authentic branding begins the moment you stop trying to become someone and start embracing who you already are.

This episode is more than a conversation. It’s a mirror. A gentle nudge. A bold reminder that your story matters. That showing up with honesty, even when you feel uncertain, is the most authentic branding of all.

If you’ve ever hidden parts of yourself, doubted your voice, or felt like you needed to be someone else in order to succeed, this is for you.

🎧 Tune in now to this episode to reconnect with the truth that your brand begins within you. You don’t need to become more. You only need to remember who you already are.

Questions to Dig Deeper (Inspired by Emily-Jane’s Wisdom):

  1. Who am I without the titles, achievements, or expectations?
(What’s left when I strip back the layers of who I think I "should" be?)
  2. Does my personal brand reflect who I truly am—or who I think people want me to be?
  3. Where in my life am I still hiding or dimming my light… and why?
(What am I afraid will happen if I show up as my full self?)
  4. What parts of my story am I scared to share… and what might happen if I shared them anyway?
  5. What do I want people to feel when they interact with me or my brand?
(Am I creating that feeling consistently?)
  6. What limiting beliefs are holding me back from fully trusting myself?
  7. What colors, textures, words, or symbols feel like me—and how can I weave them into my brand and life?
  8. What’s a creative passion or hobby I’ve been neglecting that wants to be expressed?
  9. How would my brand look if it came from my soul—not my strategy?
  10. What would it feel like to believe, deep down, that I am enough exactly as I am?
